Joyce Wang show apartment

Apartment 312 Central is part of The Designer Collection – exceptional homes styled by internationally renowned designers. Situated on the northern side of the development on the third floor, the dual-aspect, duplex residence features incredible ceiling heights of 6.1m in the main living area. International interior designer, Joyce Wang, has taken William Whiteley’s personality as a purveyor of fine goods as inspiration for styling this exquisite home.
“I LOVE THE FEELING YOU GET WHEN YOU ENTER THROUGH THE FRONT DOOR. IT CREATES A MOMENT OF INTIMACY WHERE YOU’RE COCOONED IN THE SPACE AND LIGHT COMES SPILLING THROUGH THE DOUBLE GLASS DOORS.”

Joyce Wang

Joyce Wang is the founder and principal of Joyce Wang Studio, an interior design practice based in Hong Kong and London. Global in spirit and scope, her team combines diverse cultures and creative skills to design beautiful spaces for hotels, restaurants and private residences around the world. Always pushing boundaries, Joyce loves to work with people who share her team’s excitement and open-mindedness.
Joyce credits her design education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Royal College of Art as the root of her ongoing fascination with materials and how the built environment affects the human experience. Her passion for culture runs broad and deep and her inspiration spans film, art, literature and travel, as well as architecture, craft and design.
Joyce has always found the possibilities within materiality and craftsmanship endlessly compelling. She believes that interesting materials make for intriguing sensory experiences, and this idea is apparent throughout the apartment. Original heritage features like the majestic, mullioned windows in the living area are balanced by richly layered, often-contrasting textiles and surfaces. Curated with Joyce’s exceptional eye for detail, striking artworks form a backdrop to bold furniture pieces that incorporate natural materials such as timber, leather and marble. The result is a home that’s impressive and elegant in its proportions, yet with the sense of an intimate and welcoming family home.
When designing such a residence, Joyce and her team see each project as a journey through the space – an experience that creates both cinematic spectacles and quieter moments of surprise. This reflects back to the original ambition of William Whiteley, who conceived London’s first department store as a global emporium of the senses that would surprise and delight with wonders imported from around the world.
“I WANTED TO CONTINUE THE LANGUAGE OF THE WHITELEY’S HERITAGE ARCHITECTURE WHILE BRINGING A SENSE OF MODERNITY AND FRESHNESS. EVERYTHING IS CONSIDERED, EVERYTHING IS REFINED.”
Joyce Wang
“WHEN WE CONSIDERED OUR DESIGN INSPIRATION FOR THE APARTMENT, WE LOOKED TO WILLIAM WHITELEY AS A PURVEYOR OF THE FINEST GOODS IN THE WORLD. I WAS KEEN TO BRING IN SELECT ARTISANS AT THE PEAK OF WHAT THEY’RE DOING, WHETHER THEY’RE EMERGING OR WELL-KNOWN ESTABLISHED ARTISTS.”
